WOW! Penn State

It's time to adjust to a new environment in another state again, after just getting used to life in California.

I just arrived at Penn State University a few days ago. It took 5 hours from Sacramento Airport - Washington D.C. Airport and 1 hour to State College Airport. It was such a long day on board that I felt a bit dizzy.

Dr. Talat, the coordinator & my host family waited at the airport which was surprisingly very small.  It was such a warm welcome to see people greeting  at the arrival.

Because it was very late so we ( Tatjana, Rashid & I ) had to stay in the Nittany Inn, a historical hotel in a campus in which the next day we'd an orientation there.

Penn State University ( PSU) is one of the prestigious univ. in USA. which was built in 1855 and recently there are about 5000 international students from 100 countries worldwide. The president proudly presented that it's the univ. that when there's a survey about the employer's satisfaction, it's ranked the highest and asking the employers which univ. they'd like to recruit the graduate, the answer was grads from Penn State Univ. Moreover, this year it's the most popular univ. according to the number of students' application to the univ. 12000 applications were submitted to the univ. Wow! such a big numbers.

This year there're 11 Humphrey fellows who'll base in the College of Education. Dr. Talat, Dr. Leila & Jane are the coordinator. They are very friendly & helpful.

I've also met 5Thai students in the campus so far. Most of them are very supportive. It's easy to settle in if you can still speak your mother -tongue in a foreign land. In the past, I heard people say that avoid to hang out with people from your own country. But here, I realize that there's a lot of opportunities to socialize with foriegn friends. Having Thai friends to talk with or ask for some advice will ensure that you won't miss home much. Most of them work part-time at the Weston Community Center which belongs to the White-Course Apt. where I stay.

Within a week, we Humphrey have learned a lot from Penn State.  Many excitement awaits!
