Dear Ms. Wisamitanan,

On behalf of the south fest Thailand team and the Songkhla Heritage Society, I would like to thank you and your Eng.-major students for the enormous support during the festival on 11-13 Jan. 2019.

TSU's students were not only helpful in making the festival a success, but they also came with big smiles and positive spirits.  Because of their diligent execution of questionnaires in Thai and English, we now have a very good picture of the visitors who came to the festival.

As has been in the past, working directly with you has also been very fruitful.  Your readiness this time-as well as during the past three years - to engage in activities promoting Songkhla's heritage is helping to make the town a hub for the arts and culture in southern Thailand.  Thank you for giving so unselfishly of your time.

I wish you a wonderful semester and all the best for your students' academic endeavors*.

While tidying out my office, R. 13413, this afternoon, I found the above thank you letter written by Ryan, the German-American project manager, who ran South Fest Thailand Project. It brightens my afternoon as well after receiving msg from an old friend who asked if I could pass1 M.6 high school in the final screening to study Ed. Eng. major for next term.  How upsetting.

เราไม่ชอบใส่ face mask เลยต้องพยายามทำตัวให้แข็งแรง ด้วยการเดินออกกำลังกายตอนค่ำ ประมาณครึ่งชม.

ช่วงนี้เริ่มเข้าหน้าร้อน ดอกไม้ล้มลุกเริ่มมีสีสัน เมื่อเดิน ก็ได้สำรวจตามบ้านเพื่อนบ้านในละแวกหมู่ 7 + 8
ตั้งแต่วัยเด็กที่เราชอบไม้ดอกไม้ประดับ เช่น ทานตะวันบานไม่รู้โรย บานชื่น บานเย็น บานบุรี เราว่าดอกไม้พวกนี้ปลูกง่าย แค่โยนๆเม็ด ฝังหน่อยๆก็บาน ทันได้ชื่นใจเมื่อยามเห็นดอกไม้บาน

เมื่อวานซืนเดินไปหน้าฝ่ายกิจการนิสิต เห็นพี่แม่บ้านยืนรดน้ำต้นไม้กลางเที่ยง เลยทักทาย และชมดอกทานตะวัน และถามว่าปลูกกับเม็ดเหรอ พี่แม่บ้านใจดีถามว่าจะเอาไหม มีที่เพาะชำไว้แล้วด้วยนะ เย้ๆ ดีใจจัง ได้ต้นอ่อนต้นทานตะวันกลับบ้านแล้ว

กลับถึงบ้าน เรารีบถอนหญ้า ปลูกต้นทานตะวัน(สีส้ม) ขุดหลุมตื้นๆเพื่อปลูกเสร็จไป 1 ต้น หันไปถอนหญ้าบริเวณอื่นต่อ Oh, No! ไม่นะ หันมาอีกที แมวเห็นที่ทางสะอาด นั่งทับลงไปตรงต้นแรกเฉยเลย !!

เฮ้อ...โชคดีไป เมื่อนกเจ้าเหมียวออก ต้นไม้ยังอยู่ แม้จะดูหักงอไปบ้าง แต่ดูแล้วก็ยังรอด

วันนี้ไปเดินตอนเช้ามืด สายตาก็ยังสอดส่ายดูต้นไม้ตามบ้านข้างทาง คนเกาะยอใจดี หากต้นไม้พวกนั้นแพร่พันธ์ุได้ง่าย ก็ไม่หวง เมื่อมีคนมาขอเอาไปปลูก

บ้านเราเคยปลูกบานเย็น(สีบานเย็น) แบบทิ้งขว้าง ปลูกมุมนั้นมุมนี้ (จะได้ดูเป็นสวนป่า ต้นไม้ขึ้นเอง อิๆ อันนี้ก็คิดเอาเอง) เมื่อมันมีเยอะ ก็ไม่ได้สนใจมาก แต่เมื่อมันไม่เหลือซักต้น เราคิดถึงแฮะ  เดินผ่านบ้านน้าภา (หมู่ 8) มีทั้งสีบานเย็นและสีส้ม (จริงๆแล้วดอกบานเย็นยังมีสีขาวด้วยนะ แต่ค่อนข้างหายาก) เราเลยขอเมล็ดดำๆกลับมาบ้าน

อาบน้ำมาทำงาน เพิ่งนึกขึ้นได้ตอนอยู่ office ว่ายังไม่ได้ปลูกเลย เม็ดดำๆยังนอนสงบนิ่งอยู่ในกางเกงวอร์ม แฮ่...

เรายังเคยขอต้นดาวกระจาย (อันนี้ก็ชอบ ดอกมันโปร่งๆ ดูบอบบางดี) ต้นแพร่พันธุ์เร็วด้วย จนบางทีเต็มพื้นที่ จนดูเหมือนวัชพืชซะงั้น เราก็ขอมาปลูกที่บ้าน ตอนนี้เริ่มออกดอกแล้ว

2 ปีที่แล้ว เคยไปบ้านของอ้อม (เอกไทย) บ้านอ้อมมีต้นฟ้าประทานสีชมพู สวยมาก ขึ้นจนเป็นกอใหญ่ และมีกอเล็กๆอยู่ข้างบ้าน ต้นนี้หักกิ่งไปปลูก ก็ขึ้นง่าย  ว่าแล้วก็เป็นอีก 1 อย่าง ที่เราได้มาจากคนใจดีรอบๆตัว อิๆ

Crazy Rich Asians: Crazy me

Surprisingly, I've found 'Crazy Rich Asians, a novel by Kevin Kwan, on a library bookshelf.  Wow! I have never thought that the library would have this new novel. When I visited airports, I saw this novel on the shelf and I was kind of tempted to buy it. However, as it's quite expensive.  400 B. something. I decided not to buy it as I still have lots and lots of both Thai and Eng.books on my shelves at home. 

I watched the movie, Crazy Rich Asians, last year and I may admit that I enjoyed it a lot. That rarely happened to me because I'm a person who loves to finish the book ิbefore watching the movie. But since the movie was so popular that I'd like to watch it (at that time) NOW, I asked 1 student to download this movie for me. 

Hurrah! Finally, I watched the movie.  What's the next consequence?

I was less likely to read its novel.  Even I realized that the movie was based on the best seller novel. This was (also) the first time, I felt that the movie was good enough.  No need to read the book. However, when I saw the novel in the TSU library, I borrowed it and took the time to read it.  The first 2 chapters weren't that tempting enough, but as I watched the movie already so I kind of knew the plot of the book. 

The novel was with me for almost 2 months and when the due date is approaching I tried to read it at least 2 chapters a night. Haha...

It's a nice novel that I've learned more about S'pore ways of life.  I've been to S'pore for 7 times, so I could imagine and picture scenes in the novel.  That makes me enjoy the novel more. 

There are 2 more sequel novels after 'Crazy Rich Asians', namely, China Rich Girlfriend, and Rich People Problems.  

I'll be hunting them soon. I'm now getting crazy of these novels;)

Lesson learned from 'The Story of Olympic Games'

2^nd term / 2019

1.       What is the most surprising thing after reading this book? Why? Explain.

-I felt the most surprised when I read about the Paralympic Games.  Even those people with disabilities can perform well in sports games.  They don’t use their poor physical condition for an excuse to give up or be disappointed throughout their lives.

- Cheating had occurred since the ancient period to the present.  I don’t think that the old era people cheated. I think they were more honest than new generations.

-For me, the most surprising thing is how these games can really bring people together to watch a game of sports and how it brings unity to people across the world.

2.       What have you learned from this Olympic Game?  Use your critical thinking skills to answer.

-          A big thing always takes a long time to build it, like the Olympic Game that has taken many centuries from the beginning till the present.

-          Everyone can be successful if one tries it hard enough.

-          I’ve learned that everything has changed after a period of time.

-          I learned about the power of humans that help each other to make something successful. If we can’t do the big thing alone, the best company can help us.

-          I learned about fair games.  Victory must come from the fair games, not cheating.

-          There are both strengths and weaknesses of this game. Strengths include people being kind, brave and harmonious. On the other hand, it also causes cheating and struggling to win the game.

-          For the Olympic motto ‘ Citius, Altius, Fortius’ (Faster, Higher, Stronger), it makes athletes try to be better competitors and showing the spirit that will make them successful.

-          The most important thing is not a success, but an effort to achieve things.

-          Every success depends on your attitudes.  If you believe you can do it, you might achieve it one day.  If you don’t, you will never achieve it.

-          The game brings peace to the world.  I never look from this side.  I always think that its aim is to compete to be the best in the world.

The Paralympic Games

-          - I’ve learned that there are chances for both normal and disabled people to show & improve potentials. People just have to be brave & confident.

-          The Paralympic Games are the way to support people with disabilities think that they have skills like others.  Also, they could get a healthier body.

Remark: Above is students' ideas toward the book.  I've used this outside reading book trice. The first time was for the Analytical & Critical Reading course four years ago, then last year and here it is for this 2nd term of academic year 2019.  This book is amazing. I've never got bored of reading it many many times.  It still always fascinates me.

For example:  gymasium is originally from the Greek root which actually means a place for people to exercise indoor.  The root, gymnos, means 'naked' because, in ancient Greece, a sportsman would compete in a naked body to show muscle. His body would be applied by olive oil to ensure that when they did sports on the sand, it wouldn't hurt him. 

My COVID 19 protection

Last month, I saw the Fulbrither's announcement asking Fulbrighters to share the impressive impact they have done to society.  I decided to write & sent it to the Fulbright staff.

Surprise!
Last Fri. 6 Mar 2020, I got Obama's Lucky Charm that is believed that it protects the owner from danger and bring good health. I knew that for Fulbrighters who send the stories will get a token of appreciation, but didn't think it's going to be Hanuman amulet. ( You know what, this reminds me of the Indian series, Hanuman and my late grandma. As this series had launched for almost 6 months, every night my grandma & I watched it and we really loved the chubby boy who acted Hanuman. 

I'm not a person who watches a long series, but even I insist this, surprisingly, I watched 'The Buddha', สีดา-ราม ศึกลงกา, and of course ' Hanuman'.  My family ( grandma, mom, aunt, & I) really enjoyed this series and I think one of the most important things that make this character very cute was the Thai dubbed. The narrator (?) spoke in the voice of an innocent boy.

Obama's Lucky Charms: Description

It was one of the recurring features of his days on the trail: supporters pressed all sorts of trinkets into Barack Obama's palms as he worked for crowds and shook hands.  Some voters worried about his chances, his health or his safety; others just wanted to give him something.  He kept a few in his pockets every day as a reminder of the hopes people had placed in him.

Concerning Covid19 outbreak, Xia, my close Chinese friend sent email to me on 13 Mar 2020 from China:

 I expect to get some fresh air in a natural place when the epidemic situation is ended. Now, most of Chinese are isolated by ourselves, for reducing the contact of others. Most of my time is staying at home and work online. I go out only once for buying groceries within one day, which I hardly get used to.  

The epidemic situation hasn't gone virus in Thailand though, I suggest you buy some masks for preparation. The WHO announced the coronavirus is pandemic, I would like to remind you to be cautious about it. 

One day my mum said she missed the time she spent in Thailand, me the same. I didn't have a trip after returning from Thailand. I hope the world will go back to normal track soon and people can travel safely.

Who's who behind the first running event of TSU!

I did my duty as an entertainer for Run U 2 Sea because I’m a member of the Recreation section of Thaksin University Club. Our duty was entertaining running participants, so all of my team came to join this project for entertaining, encouraging and cheering runners who came to join this 10 K mini-marathon & 6 K fun run project; Run U 2 Sea.

I hadn't slept yet the night before because the night before was ED.ENG Goodbye Seniors night. First I felt exhausted because I hadn't slept yet, but when after I saw a lot of people joined this mini-marathon project, it changed my mood. They all looked very excited to join this project; moreover, they prepared themselves very well for this running event. Therefore, I had to do my best as an entertainer from the Recreation Section of Thaksin University.

เดิน วิ่ง กี่ที ล้วนมีเรื่องเล่า!

เราตื่นเช้ามากๆเพื่อมาวิ่ง Run U 2 Sea ที่องค์การนิสิตม.ทักษิณ สงขลา จัดเป็นครั้งแรก เรามาถึงมหาลัยก่อนตีห้า เลยแว่บมานอนที่สนง.รอเวลา

...จนเลยเวลา....จ๊าก!

ตื่นมาอีกที 06.00 น.ตอนได้ยินเสียงปล่อยตัว fun run !

Oh! No! เรารีบวิ่งไปจุดปล่อยตัว สายไป 7 นาที แต่ไม่มีไผแล้ว Oh. No!

วิ่งสิคะ จะรออะไร ระหว่างทางสวนกับนักวิ่ง mini half marathon ซึ่งเริ่มวิ่งตอน 05.30 น. จากที่เราตั้งใจมาเดิน 

มันเดินไม่ได้แล้ว

แง...โดนทิ้ง...ซะไกล ขนาดนี้ (ตอนไปร่วม fun run ที่แถวสะพานติณฯ มักวิ่งตามกันทัน เพราะคนหยุดถ่ายรูปพระอาทิตย์ขึ้น และถ่ายวิวเป็นระยะๆ ครั้งนี้จัดมีแต่วิวเมือง เราว่าทำให้นักวิ่ง/เดิน แต่ละคน ตั้งหน้าวิ่งอย่างเดียว selfie น้อย เลยทำให้เราตามไม่ทัน อิๆ เหมือนจะมีเหตุผล)

อ๊ะ มีนิสิตชายอีกคนที่วิ่งตามมา ไม่รู้จักกันหรอก แต่พวกเราทำเนียนวิ่ง/เดิน ไปด้วยกัน จะได้ลดความอาย (ช่วยได้ไหมเนี่ย:)

Irish & Joy เพื่อนฟิลิปปินส์ มาช้ากว่าเราอีก เจอกันเกือบปลายทาง เราเลยได้เพื่อนร่วมทางจริงๆซะที

I arrived at TSU before 5 a.m. I thought I still had time to take more sleep in my office, R. 13413. However, when I woke up, it's already 6 am.! How come!

I ran fast to the event and reached the venue at 06.07 am. BUT no runners there.  I can't believe that the running event was so on time.  (Haha...but that's how a professional worked, right? )

I sent msg to Christina & Jay, my American neighbor to check if they arrived yet. I found later that they parked their car along the road and they were on time, unlike me;)
