Good evening, dear friends,  

How are you lately?

Thailand's very boiling both politics & weather :).  

To me, as usual, I've tried to look for any exciting activities to do & put in my blog during summer.  

This summer, I'm looking forward to be a production assistant for the Amazing Thailand Film Challenge 2014 which's part of Thailand International Film Location Festival. Thrilled to be part of the program & work with filmmakers around the world to promote Thailand to be one of the world film destinations. 

( I heard this news because my friend from BKK shared this piece of news with me as she thought my Eng. students would be interested in it. However, it seems that I was the most excited person to get this part-time job from 20-27 Apr.14 :). I already passed the interview & will be in BKK this weekend to train as a production assistant. My task is helping 2 international filmmaker team among 56 teams to shoot their short film in Thailand. As they can't speak Thai, I'll help communicate with local people and make their film shooting as smooth as silk :)

That's my latest news.

That's brilliant. Production assistant on a film. Film making seems like such a complicated and exciting art, so I envy you being a part of it. Good for you. Your students are crazy to let an opportunity like that pass, and anyway, I think you'll do the job better because you have good English, understand foreigners well, and have lots of energy, which film making probably requires.

When do you arrive in Laos?

I just cycled around Yakushima in southern Japan. There are trees there over 2000 years old and beautiful coastline. It was one of the best trips of my life.

You are active and energetic. It certainly sounds very exciting and fun to work with film makers in that capacity. It is important for Thailand to get a competent and intelligent person like you to translate not only language but also local culture. Most outside people have not so positive impression about Thailand, as you know. The movie "Hangover 2" spread even worse image of Thailand. Have you seen it?

Anyway, enjoy April and I wish the political situation is better soon.

Tale Noi Community Visit & Local Wisdom Center visit: 1 day in a roll

On 23/10/14, 10 3rd-year Eng. majors, 2 Indonesians ( Budi & Intan) and I have spent the whole day learning the Tale Noi Community, Phattalung, with 30 high school students.  They're accompanied by school students to walk in the community and learn how to weave Krajud, make shrimp paste, curry paste and see how fishermen fixed their net. In the afternoon, in a group, they've to present what they've learned from the community.

Phattlung's just a small,but peaceful place with friendly villagers and yummy food.

On the way back to TSU, we dropped by at
the Local Wisdom Center, Satingpra District, to shop and listened to the success story of the owner who thinks out of the box.

I'd recommend students to visit this  educational center to learn local's ways of lives and make clay. Handicraft products have reasonable prices.

Staff's appreciation note: Before the end of the year 2014

A Staff's Appreciation Note

3 days ago in my class, we were reviewing the unit entitled "Live Your Life".  Students were assigned to write a thank-you note to any staff they're thankful excluded their teachers.  The result was they chose to write to housekeepers in their dorms, gyms, & bldg.  Some said the toilet's clean and the housekeepers they met worked hard without complaint.  

Each day if we think of small people who do their jobs but are ignored by society, we'll see how great work they've done.  I really appreciate them and wholeheartedly want students to realize how important they're in our campus, too.

Some science students wrote to P'Pooky, the lab  technician who work hard to help them all day long.  Surprisingly, when students asked her questions, she didn't reply,but told students to get the answers by themselves first.  She's such a good coach.

For the housekeepers, I'll pass the cards to the head housekeeper so that hopefully he/she will appreciate her staff.

การ์ดขอบคุณจากใจนิสิตถึงคนทำงานในมหาลัย

ในคาบเรียน นิสิตได้รับมอบหมายให้เขียนการ์ดขอบคุณใครก็ได้ในมหาลัย ยกเว้นอาจารย์ โดยควรนึกถึงคนที่อาจจะถูกมองข้าม

ปรากฎว่านิสิตส่วนใหญ่เขียนขอบคุณพี่แม่บ้าน ยาม ที่ช่วยทำความสะอาดห้องน้ำ ห้องเรียนโดยไม่เห็นแก่ความเหน็ดเหนื่อย

การมองเห็นความสำคัญของผู้ที่ทำงานเพื่อความเรียบร้อยของมหาลัย เช่นแม่บ้าน ฝ่ายกิจการนิสิต ห้องสมุด ย่อมทำให้นิสิตได้ฝึกคิดบวก เห็นคุณค่าของผู้อื่น
เพราะทุกคนล้วนมีคุณค่าและความดีในตัว คิดบ่อยๆทำให้จิตใจอ่อนโยน

ขอบคุณหมวยและชนกนาถที่ช่วยทำให้การ์ดดูน่ารักขึ้น ด้วยการเอาไหมมาผูก และรับเป็นคนเอาไปให้พี่ปุ๊กกี้ (เจ้าหน้าที่ lab) เราเสนอความคิดว่าเอาไปแอบตั้งตอนเค้าไม่อยู่และเอานม 1 กล่องไปตั้งไว้ด้วยน่าจะดี จะได้เป็นการขอบคุณ & surprise เค้า

ส่วนการ์ดพี่แม่บ้าน เราจะเอาไปให้หัวหน้าแม่บ้าน เพื่อแจกจ่ายลูกน้องต่อไป และเห็นการทำดีของลูกน้อง หวังว่าพี่แม่บ้านจะมีความสุขเมื่อได้รับการ์ด

การสร้างรอยยิ้มให้ผู้อื่นไม่ใช่เรื่องยาก และแค่คิดอยากทำอะไรเพื่อผู้อื่น เราก็สุขแล้ว

Singha English Challenge

TSU Eng. major team have competed in the Singha English Challenge 2014 at Central Festival yesterday for the south regional round. It's a whole day for them,but hopefully it's fun and inspirational.

The program included a special talk by Mr. Daniel Fraser, games, & quizzes.

Good luck to them all. Looking forward to hearing good news very soon.

We left TSU at 7.45 am. by 2 uni. vans.  This year I was surprised to see many students being interested in this program. Last year, just 3 teams! But this year I've got 6 teams in a group of 4. Wow!  Perhaps this's a consequence of the Singha English Challenge Roadshow last month when the Singha staff visited the Fac. of Humanities to promote this event.

Fortunately, last year I didn't get a chance to take pic. with Mr. Daniel Fraser, one of my favorite TV host so this year I wouldn't miss it. Hurrah!  Here it goes.

This afternoon, participating students / teachers who attended the " Read It Forward" Program took 15 mins to write a thank-you note to whoever they felt grateful. Happily apart from writing to their teachers, some students wrote it to a librarian, security guard, HUSO officer, and staff who made this program possible for book lovers  

วันนี้ตอนบ่ายโครงการส่งต่อการอ่าน Read It Forward ใช้เวลา 15 นาทีเพื่อรำลึกถึงสิ่งดีๆที่คนอื่นทำให้ตนเอง และเขียนการ์ดขอบคุณ

น่าดีใจที่นอกจากนิสิตจะเขียนถึงอาจารย์แล้ว หลายคนก็ยังนึกขอบคุณไปยังน้ายาม เจ้าหน้าที่ห้องสมุด เจ้าหน้าที่คณะมนุษย์ฯ และทีมงานส่งเสริมการอ่านที่จัดงานนี้ขึ้นมา

พัทลุง- กี่ครั้งก็ไม่เบื่อ

1-5 สค. 57 นิสิตลาวและบุคลากรมาเยี่ยมมหาวิทยาลัยทักษิณและใช้เวลาทำกิจกรรมร่วมกับนิสิตองค์การนิสิตและสโมสรนิสิตคณะมนุษย์ฯ เรากับวันคำในฐานะเพื่อนกันเลยได้มีโอกาสมาเจอกันอีกครั้งหลังจากที่เรากลับมาจากลาวเมื่อ 13/6/57 แป๊บๆก็ถึงเดือนสค.ที่พวกเค้ามาเยี่ยม

กิจกรรมหลักๆอยู่ที่สงขลา-พัทลุง เหตุที่เพิ่มพัทลุงเพราะปีที่แล้วจัดที่สงขลาเป็นหลัก เลยอยากให้คนที่เคยมาสงขลาแล้วได้เปิดหูเปิดตาเจออะไรใหม่ๆบ้าง ปรากฎว่านิสิตไทยหลายคนก็ยังไม่เคยลงเรือดูบัวและนกน้ำทะเลน้อย (เป็นงั้นไป) 

บล๊อคฉบับนี้จะขอกล่าวถึงพัทลุงก่อนนะคะ

กิจกรรม Do-It-Yourself อย่างเราที่เราทำร่วมกับนิสิตลาวคือการไสน้ำแข็งเพื่อกินเป็นอาหารว่าง ฮ่าๆ มันเป็นเรื่องสนุกสนานสำหรับเราในการได้ลองทำสิ่งที่เราเห็นอยู่บ่อยๆแต่ไม่เคยทำ 

Making shaved ice's such an entertaining activity for both Boe & I who planned to do it for our part-time job:). Plus, self- plucking a rambutan from its plantation's fun too. The rambutans were very fresh. The owner's very kind that he gave our Thai & Laotian team free fruits. We could pick up any ripe fruits in his plantations if we wanted.

การบดน้ำแข็งไสมีเคล็ดลับคือต้องอย่าใส่ก้อนน้ำแข็งเยอะเกินไป หากใส่เยอะจะบดได้ช้าและใช้แรงมาก เป็นเทคนิคใหม่ที่ได้เรียนรู้จากการไปเรียนรู้ชุมชนทะเลน้อย พัทลุง ร่วมกับนิสิตไทย-ลาว

คุณลุงจาย เจ้าของสวนผลไม้ อำเภอศรีนครินทร์ ใจดีมากอนุญาตให้พวกเราเก็บผลไม้ได้ตามใจอยาก มังคุดเงาะจากสวนอร่อยมากๆจนเราไม่ทานข้าวเที่ยง หันมาถือศีลกินผลไม้แทน

มาเที่ยวทะเลน้อยหลายครั้งแต่ก็ไม่เคยได้ขึ้นมายืนดูควายกลางน้ำแบบนี้ (หากฤดูฝน พื้นที่นี้จะถูกท่วมและควายบริเวณนี้ก็จะดำลงไปหาหญ้าใต้น้ำกิน เป็นการเรียนรู้การเอาชีวิตของสัตว์โลกอีกแบบนึง)

ภาพทีถ่ายไม่ได้ถ่ายติดควายแต่อย่างใด เนื่องจากต้องดูควายอยู่ห่างๆเนื่องจากควายจะไม่คุ้นกับคนแปลกหน้า และเราก็หวั่นเกรงว่าจะเป็นทีมพวกเรากันเองที่จะต้องลงน้ำแทบไม่ทัน หากควายไม่พอใจแล้ววิ่งเข้าใส่

พี่เบญเล่าให้ฟังว่าหากมาลงพื้นที่ควายแถวนี้  ก็จะต้องใส่เสื้อตัวเดิมที่ไม่ซัก เพื่อให้ควายไม่รู้สึกแปลกกลิ่น ไม่งั้นมันอาจจะทำร้ายเอาได้ เจ้าของควายก็เหมือนกัน ต้องใส่เสื้อผ้าเก่าๆ ไม่ซัก เพื่อควายจะได้รู้สึกว่าเป็นพวกเดียวกับมัน
